What is a rug anyway? This series is the beginning of a larger body of work that seeks to expand the definition of rag rugs as utilitarian objects and explore their potential for posing questions and making statements. They are situated within a conceptual framework that finds connections between architecture and handworked textiles through the many meanings of words like “pattern” and “representation.”
Four out of the seven are finished. Each rug follows its own set of rules, and has an accompanying diagram drawn in colored pencil.
